Carving our pumpkin

Carving our pumpkin

When Charlie saw mini pumpkins for sale for just one Euro this weekend, he decided to pick one up and help Little Man carve it for Halloween. (Ok, so Little Man watched and Charlie carved – but it still counts!)

Charlie started by cutting a lid for the pumpkin

Little Man was fascinated when he saw what was inside.

Ew! Pumpkin guts!

When Charlie started to carve the face, Little Man watched avidly.

Once it was finished, Little Man couldn't wait to take a closer look.

We explained that Little Man should put a candle inside to see what happens.

So he did! But he was a little too eager to put the lid back on. We had to wait until he was done before we could get in there to light the candle!

Boo!

I thought Little Man would be so excited to see the pumpkin lit up. But I never expected the reaction we got!

“Oh no!!” he shouted! “Fire, Call Sam!”

Oh dear.

He has obviously been watching way too much Fireman Sam on TV lately! We were laughing too hard to explain to him that it was okay. He kept repeating himself, “Oh no! Call Sam!” Rather than calmly explain to him that it wasn’t a real fire and we didn’t need Sam to come “to the rescue!”, I did what any good mother would do, and I caught it on video: “Oh no! Call Sam!”

  1. Looks brilliant!!
This is my first year buying a pumkin… looking forward to carving it!!  There’s a first time for everything!! 🙂
(PS….. i heard on the radio this morning, that apparantly if you rub some vaseline around the inside of it, it will stop it from turning black)

    • That’s a great tip – thanks Sinead. Must try it out – assuming we’re allowed to light it again that is!

Have fun carving your first pumpkin!
