Where have all my friends gone?
Tragedy struck at 11.45pm on New Year’s Eve. I was trying to fix a synchronisation error that was corrupting my iPhone contacts when I accidentally deleted ALL of my contacts from my phone. I know this isn’t an issue related to motherhood, but it is certainly one that impacts greatly on my life!
I love my iPhone – I am one of those people who believes that there is an app for everything. But I hate iTunes. It’s a cumbersome application and it always seems to make getting information from my iPhone to my computer an impossibility. So to avoid all that, I signed up for MobileMe a few months back. And since then the most used contacts on my phone have become corrupted. Pieces of data are repeated hundreds of times within the one contact. It’s been slowing the whole phone down, and I was determined to fix it. However, I had no idea how difficult that would prove to be.
It shouldn’t have been that hard to replace my lost contacts. I had a copy of them on my iPad. But for some reason, neither MobileMe nor iTunes would copy those contacts onto my PC or sync them with my iPhone. And any Apple Support that I could find worked on the assumption that I had an original copy of the contacts on my PC. I didn’t.
So finally, tonight, I was determined to fix this issue for once and for all. And three hours later, I finally have. I gave up on iTunes and MobileMe and downloaded a new app called ContactSync. Five minutes later, I had synced all of my contacts up to the app server from the iPad and back down to my iPhone. Problem finally solved.
Needless to say, I won’t be renewing my MobileMe subscription next year!
