Shiny new toy

Shiny new toy

All is quiet on Mama.ie this evening because I am completely distracted by a shiny new toy.

It’s been a while coming, but our Sony VAIO laptop, which we’ve had for four and a half years, is on its last legs, and we’ve been looking around for a while for an alternative. For years, Charlie has been trying to convince me to switch from PC to Mac, but I was always afraid to make the leap – worried that I would struggle with a new operating system after years of immersion in Windows operating systems.

Then in the past year, we have been so happy with Apple products in this house that I decided Charlie was right – it’s time to try a Mac laptop. We’ve had such positive experiences first with our iPod Touches, and then when we moved to iPhones and most recently with the iPad, that I’m hopeful it will be the same with the Macbook. It better be, because our past two laptops have lasted us 4-5 years each, so I’m expecting the same from this!

So far so good – this is my first ever blog post typed on our new Macbook, and I’m loving it! I must admit it beats typing a post on my iPhone or waiting five minutes for our old laptop to boot up so that I can write something. Right – I’m off to play some more with our shiny new toy! Have to figure out the alternatives to my usual keyboard shortcuts that I depend on! So, if any of you have any tips for people moving from PC to Mac for the first time, please feel free to share!
