Looking for a playgroup?
Have you heard about MeetMums.ie? It’s a brand new website dedicated to helping Irish parents meet other parents and find playgroups in your area.
For many people in Ireland today, the place where they settle to raise their families is far from where they grew up themselves. The recent property boom left us with commuter towns full of “blow-ins”, and neighbourhoods where people don’t know the names of those living next door to them. That’s all fine, before you have children, and maybe your house is just somewhere you lay your head when you’re not at work or out and about. I know it never bothered me before Little Man was born. Then baby arrives, and suddenly you find yourself spending far more time in your new town or village than previously…and it can be a lonely experience.
Finding others with children close to the same age can be a real lifeline, and playgroups or parent and baby groups can be a wonderful excuse to get out of the house! I know I was very lucky having access to so many parenting groups and classes in my area, but even so there came a point when I had to reach out and make an effort to find friends in my area. And I was so glad I did! When I think of all the social cups of coffee (and later all those glasses of wine!) I would have missed out on if I hadn’t done that!
Hopefully, sites like Meetmums.ie will offer new parents the opportunity to make good friends and find playgroups in their own areas.
I know the name is catchy, but it’s a pity it’s not more inclusive sounding.
