Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Technically this is Little Man’s second St. Patrick’s Day. But last year he was too little to really notice any of the celebrations – I don’t think we even brought him to the parade. This year was going to be different however. He is nearly 18 months old, and notices everything around him, so we were excited to plan a big family day for St. Patrick’s Day.
We got off to a bad start with a terrible night’s sleep – another tooth on the way! And then breakfast was a bit of a disaster as well. Little Man turned his nose up at Ready Brek, fruit, even yogurt! I don’t think that’s ever happened before. Finally I made some pancakes, and he ate a few pieces, but only after confirming several times that they weren’t “hot, hot” (his new favourite mealtime activity!).
Still we were determined to make the most of the day, so we headed off to our local pool for a family swim. This was definitely the high point of our day. We had so much fun in the pool and Little Man just loved it. He even did a couple of underwater swims. I didn’t think he would still like that at this age, but apparently he still remembers some of those Waterbabies lessons!
He fell asleep on the way home from the pool, and stayed asleep when we got home, so we transferred him up to his cot. The swim must have really taken it out of him, because he slept for three hours! Unfortunately, by the time he woke, the parade was over! I couldn’t believe it.
We headed down into our local town anyway to see if there was still anything happening, but we met throngs of people walking away from the town. Clearly we had just missed the end of the parade. I’m so disappointed. I guess Little Man’s first parade will have to wait until next year!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!
