Art worth framing!

Art worth framing!

Did you know that Little Man is a budding artist? Of course you did – how could you fail to notice his amazing paintwork skills in our Valentine’s Day card for Charlie?!

One of the things I love about his crèche is the amount of arts and crafts activities they do each day. They send a lot of it home to us, and we love to look at it. But, we have to be realistic. We have a small house. Built during the housing boom small. We don’t have space to be sentimental, which is a bit of a problem for me because I’m sentimental by nature. But I’ve worked really hard over the past few years to declutter, and then along come these glorious works of art from Little Man, and I can see straight away that I am going to have to be extra strict with myself. Otherwise, there’s a very real possibility that our little house will be crammed full of boxes of art before Little Man even starts school.

So I’ve decided to choose just one or two pieces that I really love and give those pride of place in our house, and hopefully that will help me feel a little better about not keeping all of it! My favourites so far are from Halloween – a little footprint ghost and a little handprint spider. I’ve framed them, and given them pride of place in our sitting room. I’ve also kept a clay Valentine’s heart, and a Christmas decoration. That’s not so bad in six months, is it? I figure as long as he doesn’t take up sculpture, we should be alright!

Such talent!

  1. I can imagine how hard it would be not to be saving all of it. I read once about a couple who saved the art work and then turned them into birthday/Christmas cards for family and friends. I thought that was a pretty good idea – lets you share the love AND gets it out of your own house. 🙂

    • That’s a good idea Tammy. We do give some of it to grandparents but there is a lot! They make something every day!

  2. You could always try selling it on ebay. Someone is bound to buy it and Little Man can earn his keep 😉

  3. That handprint is only gorgeous!!!! I am the very same!!!!! Our kids went and currently one is still attending the same creche, albeit two short mornings a week. I have lever arch (eeeeeekkkkkk!) files with their stuff therein! I am getting stricter with DS3 now though and like you, chucking the mad artist stuff and keeping the priceless stuff – fingerprint robins and hand and footprint stuff.
