A Truly Life-Saving Story
Once upon a time there was a little bunny with a special story to tell.
And if you read that story, you might just save a child’s life.
Remember I attended the Pampers-UNICEF bloggers’ event a few weeks ago and learned all about MNT. I learned, to my horror, that every nine minutes, a baby in the developing world dies of this preventable disease. But since 2006, Pampers has partnered with UNICEF, and together they are attempting to eliminate this disease around the world.
What is MNT?
Tetanus spores live in the ground and the soil. In developing countries, women often give birth in unsanitary conditions, and when the umbilical cord is cut, these tetanus spores can pass through the cord and into the mother and her newborn. Within a few days, the disease overwhelms the newborn baby, and as many as 95% of babies who contract the disease die from it. The sad fact is that this disease is completely preventable through changes in birthing practices, and through vaccination.
What can I do?
Today you can save a life by reading a story.
Each time their life-saving story is read online, Pampers will donate one vaccine against Newborn Tetanus to UNICEF. Every time the story is read, that’s one more vaccine in the global campaign to eliminate Newborn Tetanus.
Little Man and I have read this story a couple of times already – he really likes it. First I tell Miffy his name, and then I upload his photograph, and moments later, we get to read the story of Miffy and Little Man working together with Miffy’s friends to help a poor teddy bear. It’s a lovely story. Little Man really enjoys it. And every time we read it, a life-saving vaccine is donated.
I’ve done that – is there anything else I can do?
Well, since you ask – there are a number of ways you can get involved and for each action taken, Pampers will donate the cost of a tetanus vaccine to UNICEF (4.4p).
