Wednesday Window: Time to Shred
Ugh. The weighing scales. Finally put batteries back into it tonight after ignoring it for the past year. I’ll be honest – I’m considering taking them back out again! 🙂
But not to worry. I may have let exercise and health slide in the past couple of years, but I have made some really positive changes in the past month, thanks to some great advice from my sister-in-law Julie. I’ve been making one change at a time, and once I am used to that change I’ve been introducing another.
So first I cut out snacking after 8pm. That was harder than I thought. I didn’t realise how much I had been dipping into the biscuit tin with each cup of tea in the evenings. Once that habit was established, I took Julie’s advice and started doing Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred. Ouch. It’s a 25 minute workout based on interval training – 3 minutes of strength training, 2 minutes of cardio, followed by 1 minute of abs. Then repeat. And repeat. Like I said – ouch. The programme is divided into 3 levels. You do level 1 for 10 days, and then move on to level 2 for 10 days, before moving to level 3 for the final 10 days.
I’m currently on Day 8 of Level 1. I have no idea if it’s made a difference weight wise but it has certainly made a difference fitness wise. There is no comparison between my strength and stamina on Day 1 compared to today. And I feel great. I can’t wait to see how I feel by Day 30.
So that’s it – my little Wednesday window this week – a week of baby steps and positive changes.
I’ve come to accept that I’ll never be wordless and I’ll never manage a true Wordless Wednesday post, so I’ve introduced my Wednesday Window posts instead. Wednesday Window offers a little snapshot of life in our house this week. The post contains a photo or photos taken this week and a sentence or three about it! If you have a Wednesday Window of your own that you’d like to share, be sure to leave a link in the comments below.
Well done Lis, you’ve made such great changes. I’m cheering from the side lines 🙂 xxx
Thanks for all the encouragement Julie.
Fair play Lisa! It’s pretty hard to find the energy at the end of the day with everything else going on, you have my admiration. I’d be interested to hear how you feel at the end of the 30 days – please do report back 🙂
Mind the Baby recently posted..What a difference a year makes
Thanks Mind the Baby. I think because the two of us are doing it, it’s a little easier to keep motivated. So I’m really hoping we stick it out. Just about to do level 1 day 9 now…
Well done. Its tough to make those changes when you have a lot of real life stuff going on too. I know I always have great intentions but then arrive home after a days work and then facing the dinner/homework/housework, and exercise is the last thing on my mind.
Are you doing the workout from a DVD or youtube? Might try and rope a friend in to do it with me – like you say, two are better than one.
I’m following it in YouTube Ellie – for level 1 anyway. I think we’ll download levels 2 and 3 from iTunes because our net connection can be a bit tempermental and streaming content isn’t always dependable.
