Time to get moving
Last week on holidays I had to admit to myself that I have become desperately unfit. Did I ever tell you how good I was at exercising while I was pregnant? Yoga every week from 20 weeks on. I skipped it one week when I was feeling a bit off, and as it turned out I went into labour that night, so I didn’t feel too guilty for skipping the class.
I also swam at least once and sometimes twice a week until I was about 36 weeks pregnant. At 36 weeks I was swimming 18 lengths of the pool. Fine I took little breaks after each length, but I still felt fit and able.
And then…on holidays I couldn’t swim one length. Not one. Every time I tried my lower back muscles felt weak and shaky. So that was it. Time to face the fact that I have been letting my health slide completely since Little Man arrived on the scene.
I have lots of excuses. Sleepless nights, working four (and now five) days a week, as well as keeping on top of all the housework that comes with life with a toddler. But the fact is that I find an hour or two each evening to spend on this blog, because I enjoy it. So if I can do that, then I can find some time to spend on getting fit as well. I think I’ll probably have to aim for five blog posts a week instead of seven so that I have time for everything. But if I am fit and healthy as a result in a few months time it will be worth it.
So tonight I headed to the gym for a fitness assessment. The hardest part was walking in the door of the gym and admitting that I haven’t done a scrap of exercise in two years. But that’s done now, and I have a training programme with my name on it.
Now all I have to do is follow it! Wish me luck!
Oh well done Lisa, good luck 🙂
