Potty training: The crèche test
I was surprised to find I was nervous this morning getting Little Man ready for crèche. After the success of the weekend, and a very positive start to potty training, I was worried that the experience in crèche wouldn’t be as positive. I don’t know why – I should know by now that the carers there know what they are doing. And I’ll be the first to admit that they know a lot more about potty training than me!!
I called them mid-morning to find out how he was getting on. Apparently he had no problem using the kid-sized toilet and was quite chuffed with himself!
When I collected him this afternoon, he ran over to me full of news about how he had used the big boy toilet. And only one accident all day, and that was at naptime. I’m delighted – I hope I’m not counting my chickens too early but so far it looks like we read the signs right and he was ready for this!
I think the most surprising thing of all about this potty training experience is it shows how much I’ve changed since I became a parent. In fact it shows how much I’ve changed this year. I think maybe I’m starting to relax a bit as a parent. This is probably the first big milestone I haven’t researched to death. No potty training books lining our bookshelves, no relevant websites bookmarked. I haven’t compared and contrasted all the recommended methodologies and formulated a plan for our approach! I’m not sure what’s happened to me!! Seems I’m learning to just go with the flow… 😉
(Either that or it’s the fact that he’s 28 months and I figure, if it doesn’t work now we’ll just try again in 6 months time. )
Way to go Little Man 🙂
That’s great news, he’s doing so well! Have to agree with u about starting to relax, I was the same when my little man was small, read and re-read everything before I did anything….and now I’ve learned to trust my instincts and his and it def makes for a more relaxed parent and child. They just seem to do things when they are ready and it’s taken me years to figure that out!!!
Anyway, ye must be so proud! Well done little man 🙂
