Our Playdough: One week on
Just over a week ago, we tried a new Homemade Playdough recipe. We were pretty happy with the results on the day, but I was curious to see how well it would last too.
Actually, I’ve been pretty impressed with the results. The colours have bled a little bit into each other, but the texture and elasticity of the playdough is still great. It still smells fresh as well, which is surprising, because I mistakenly left it sitting in the plastic sandwich bag on the sunny windowsill one day last week. As far as I can tell, the only effect the sunshine had on it was to crystallise some of the salt, making the playdough a little crunchy when you cut into it with a cookie cutter shape.
It’s certainly keeping a lot better than our first attempt, which was really crumbly after a week. And it’s just as well, because it rained a lot this weekend, and arts and crafts are top of my list of toddler rainy-day activities, so this playdough got used every day!
I think I’d rather replace the metal cookie cutters we’ve been using with some more child-friendly plastic ones though. I’m worried the metal edges are a bit sharp on Little Man’s hands when he’s pressing out the shapes. I’ve been looking online, and have my eyes on this big box of 101 cookie cutters on Amazon: Wilton 101 Cookie Cutter Set Although, Little Man might have more fun with this set, with a little rolling pin like Mammy’s: BIGJIGS Pastry Set What do you think?
