Now those are some sandcastles!
One of my favourite parts of our holiday last week was a visit we paid to a Sand Sculptures exhibition in Pera, which was a short drive from Albufeira, where we were staying. I’ve seen the occasional sand sculpture (okay so usually what I see are those little sand dogs that people make on Grafton Street and Henry Street that always look exactly the same no matter who is making them), but I have never in my life seen anything like this. It was amazing!
According to the organiser’s website, Fiesa.org, this festival of sand runs every year in Pera, with a different theme each year. This year’s theme was Animal Kingdom. To be honest, my iPhone photos don’t really do the sculptures justice – I was too busy chasing a runaway toddler around the place to worry about composition! But I think I captured enough for you to get an idea of just how good this exhibition was. It runs from April until October each year, so if ever you are in the Algarve while it’s on, I highly recommend you check it out!
