A little spring cleaning

We’ve been clearing the clutter (and the cobwebs!) out of our house this past couple of weeks, and it’s just so refreshing. So I’m thinking it might be a good idea to do the same thing with my website. I’ve already made a few changes behind the scenes to reduce the number of plugins I’m using, and generally clean up the maintenance of the site.

But I thought I’d turn to you to find out if there’s anything you’d like to see changed or improved on Mama.ie. Would you prefer different ways of subscribing? (I’m considering switching to the WordPress email subscription service instead of Feedburner, which I currently use.) Are you happy with the comments system, or do you find it offputting? When I run contests, (which I really must do again soon – anyone interested in sponsoring a prize for my lovely readers, get in touch!), would you prefer a different setup – or do you like that you just have to comment to enter?

When you come on to the site, is the information easy to find? Or do you just tend to read the more recent posts and ignore the older ones? There are a lot of them you know – this is post number 431 on this site, so if you’ve just started following recently, there’s plenty to read – I promise!

So what do you think? What should I focus on for my spring clean? 🙂

    I’m new to your blog and love the layout and style – so far I’ve only read posts from main page and newest appear in google reader but I will browse older posts bit by bit. Love the app reviews as I’m a bit of an addict myself x

      Welcome MummyOnSuir! Glad you like the layout. Once you’re more familiar with the site, I’d love to hear any feedback you have on areas for potential improvement.

      As a new user, would you have liked to see a “New Users Start Here” type page with links to some of my most popular posts? Or a tour of the site?

        Sorry for the late reply, I didn’t see you’d replied – I’m probably doing something wrong as I’m a bit of a newbie to commenting and such. I think popular posts on front page is a good idea – I’m not sure about the ‘new users start here’ or ‘tour’ but that’s personal preference. 
        If there’s specific stuff you’d like to guide new readers too maybe you could have a tab on ‘mama’s best bits, site highlights’ or something similar.
        Hope that helps a bit although I don’t think you need it – site looks fab  🙂
