Things that go bump in the night
I think Little Man must be getting in some practice for Halloween. He’s cutting his eye teeth at the moment, and while he’s still sleeping through the night, I can’t say it’s a restful sleep. Every so often, he lets out a banshee-like shriek before rolling over and going back to sleep. I have to admit, it has us on edge. It’s a bit disconcerting to be woken from a deep sleep by a yelp or a shriek.Last night, I was on “ups” duty, so each time he cried, I dutifully dragged myself out of bed to check on him. He’s been tossing and turning a lot too – more than usual – and it’s so cold these nights, the drop in temperature is disturbing him when he kicks the blankets off.
By 4am, I think I had been up to him four or five times…and I was feeling cold, tired, and pretty sorry for myself. I pulled the blanket back over Little Man, tucked him in, and crawled back into bed. I was just drifting back to sleep when…
BUMP!
I sat up and listened.
GROAN…
MOAN…
I dragged myself out of bed again. But when I checked on Little Man, he wasn’t there!!!
I started feeling frantically all around the bed. As I patted my way towards the end of the bed, I found a foot. I blinked, willing my eyes to focus in the dark, and gradually they made out the shape of Little Man, feet hanging on the end of the bed, head firmly planted on the floor. Thankfully, we have those large foam tiles on the floor beside his bed, so no harm done.
“Bang head, bang head,” he moaned as I picked him up and tucked him back into bed.
Poor Little Man. Here’s hoping tonight’s a little less eventful! 🙂
