Twice as tall!

Twice as tall!

Did you know that if you measure your child’s height on their second birthday, and double it, you have a pretty good estimate for their final adult height? It’s not 100% accurate apparently, but it’s a reasonable indicator. Here’s an article from the Mayo Clinic about it: Child’s Height at Age 2 May Predict Adult Height

So of course, we couldn’t help ourselves. Little Man turned 2 this week, so we had to measure him!

How tall am I Mammy?

He’s just about hitting 35 inches, which would give him an adult height of 5’10”. Of course he was born almost two weeks early, so Charlie wants to measure him again in two weeks time for “a more accurate” measurement. I think he’s hoping Little Man will grow an inch in that time. No pressure Little Man! 🙂

It’ll be interesting to see in almost 20 years time how accurate this little prediction was.

  1. My mother did this for us many years ago and as part of old wives tale is different for boys and girls – can’t remember which is for 18 months and which at 2 years. But my brother was a bit of a small fry for years and mam kept telling him – you’ll be whatever height and sure enough he got a growth spurt in his late teens and it was bang on!! So maybe try the two weeks’ time and wait n see 🙂

    • That’s really interesting Celine. I’ve actually read since that two and a half is a more “accurate” time for measuring boys. I wonder which – if any – is true.
