Pregnancy: Week 10

Pregnancy: Week 10

I wrote this post back in August when I was ten weeks pregnant, and sleeping, sleeping, sleeping. Now that I’ve made the official announcement, I’m finally publishing and sharing it.

10 weeks pregnant but I’ve barely noticed, because the sleeping continues. Wake in the morning, peel my head from the pillow. Work all day, come home, make dinner, play with Little Man, put him to bed or clean up (depending on whose turn it is), and then collapse on the couch for a cup of decaf tea. Then bed. Rinse and repeat.

My latest night this week was staying up to 10pm. And I paid for it the next day. It is so unlike me to head to bed before Charlie, but I’ve been sound asleep about an hour before him every night this week. It’s a bit of a shock to the system. Technically I am sleeping loads, but I’m feeling a bit burnt out because I’m not getting any down time. It feels like if I’m not asleep, I’m busy.

I just keep reminding myself that this exhaustion passed by 12 or 13 weeks last time, so I just have to keep going.

Ready for the next sneeze!

In other news this week, I discovered the joy that is round ligament pains on a second pregnancy. One day this week, I was sitting at my desk at work when I sneezed. Nothing unusual there except that I immediately felt as though someone had stabbed me in the groin. I had to clamp my hand over my mouth to keep from yelling out. And then breathe…breathe…for about 30 seconds until the pain passed. As soon as I could straighten up again and breathe normally I got straight on to Google to find out what on earth had just happened. Turns out it’s really common. Loads of people experience it on first pregnancies too. Well I never did that I remember, and so this was a complete shock to the system. Dust and other sneeze-inducing things are now the enemy, because between now and next March or April, I have no desire to sneeze again!!

UPDATE: As sneezing is generally an involuntary response, my desire to avoid it hasn’t worked out too well. However, the stabbing pain has only reoccurred once, and again it was sitting at my desk – with my legs crossed. Turns out if I uncross my legs while seated as is recommended during pregnancy, no stabbing pain. That seems incentive enough, don’t you think?!
