Gold for Katie!

Gold for Katie!

What a day! I wish I could have seen Katie Taylor’s fight – but I was stuck driving home while the fight was on. But I heard every tense minute of it on the radio. My knuckles were white gripping the wheel waiting for that final result. I’d say the whole nation held its breath after that final round.

But it was worth it!

I’ll be the first to admit that I have little or no interest in boxing. But I couldn’t help but get behind Katie. For the past few years, as she made her way into public hearts in Ireland, she has shown herself to be hard-working and committed to her sport, and despite her great achievements as four time World Champion, she has always sounded humble.

I’m not ashamed to tell you that I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat hearing the result. I’ve seen Katie interviewed several times, and she has always struck me as such  an admirable person. To see (or hear as the case may be!) someone like that, who has worked so hard, achieve an Olympic Gold – well, it’s a moment that will live with me for quite a while.

So congratulations Katie! We’re so proud of you!
